“ High-end private residences are the specialty of Sutton Suzuki Architects…”
“Designing homes as distinctive as their clients, principals of Sutton Suzuki Architects Ron Sutton and Elizabeth Suzuki each contribute to the firm over 30 years of diverse experiences, a commitment to superior personal service and a passion for beautiful architecture.”
High-end private residences are the specialty of Sutton Suzuki Architects, yet since the firm was established in 1990, a variety of referral projects from commercial undertakings to executive offices, mixed use buildings and even small restaurants have added flavor to the portfolio. Elizabeth and Ron enjoy visiting with prospective clients to share a brief collection of their architectural projects. Elizabeth notes that because each design is unique, clients will not find an exact image of their future dream home, but by reviewing the quality, attention to detail and way in which the design was executed, clients will be able to appreciate the architects’ ability to interpret their vision. To the professionals of Sutton Suzuki, architecture is a response to each client’s unique needs and stylistic preferences. They understand that sometimes people are not exactly sure what they want and are adept at listening intently to help clients develop a program that suits their particular lifestyle.
From site selection and acquisition to concept, construction administration and even referrals to talented designers and landscape architects, Sutton Suzuki is delighted to work with clients on projects of diverse types, styles and scales. Either Ron or Elizabeth personally oversees the concept development, although clients have the benefit of a full team of creative professionals. The collaborative creative energy in the office is contagious, and clients enjoy being intimately involved with the architectural design process.

The architects of Sutton Suzuki are equally involved in renovation and new construction designs and appreciate the opportunity to overcome a wide range of challenges that each genre presents. Elizabeth is particularly fond of remodels for clients who have lived in the home for a while, because they are constantly surprised and impressed by the dramatic improvements. A rather large undertaking resulted in a 10,OOO-square-foot main house and several large outbuildings, all powered by 250-foot deep geothermal wells that take advantage of natural water circulation and solar energy. By incorporating Green design and the latest technology, Sutton Suzuki was able to minimize the estate’s environmental footprint, giving the client peace of mind.
A wide assortment of awards has been bestowed on the company, including Remodeling magazine’s Best Project of the Year and the East Bay Chapter of the AlA’s Excellence in Residential Design among others. Although awards are nice, Ron and Elizabeth feel most rewarded by clients who say that the longer they live in their Sutton Suzuki home, the more they appreciate all of the exquisite details, finishes and myriad of pleasant vistas. Industry peers also comment frequently on the structure and site because Sutton Suzuki’s architecture goes beyond stunning aesthetics to encompass sensitivity and clients’ dreams.
